Does my Wyze Cam support person detection?
Wyze Cams v2 and Pan are supported. Click here to find out if you have an original Wyze Cam or a Wyze Cam v2. Wyze Cam v1 is not supported due to hardware constraints.
Does the person detection affect the event recording cool down time?
No, there will still be a 5-minute cooldown between event videos of the same type. If a person is in the camera’s field of view during the 5-minute cooldown it will not be detected.
How does the motion detection zone and motion sensitivity affect person detection?
Motion detection zone and motion sensitivity settings will determine where and how often a motion event will be triggered. The person detection algorithm runs only on videos captured after a motion event has been triggered. Person detection is not running on the camera live stream, so without a motion trigger the algorithm will not run, and therefore you will not receive a person notification.
Does this change the privacy of my video?
No, when enabled the AI algorithm is running directly on your camera and only runs after a motion event video has been captured to determine if a person is present or not. Your videos will stay securely within the Wyze cloud while the processing takes place locally on your camera.
How does Wyze’s person detection work?
When enabled, Wyze Cam will run an advanced AI algorithm directly on your camera that will analyze new motion event videos to determine if a person is present or not. This algorithm has been trained to look for people and to label the video when a person has been detected. You will be able to filter your event videos by “person” as well as limit your push notifications to only “person.”
How does this service differ from AI solutions from other companies?
Typically, AI algorithms require a significant amount of computing power to run, which means generally the processing is done in the cloud or on expensive hardware. Wyze's solution is different because by partnering with Xnor.ai, a leader in the development of extremely efficient AI solutions, it is possible to run advanced AI algorithms directly on your Wyze Cam using the existing hardware.
How does AI really work?
Edge AI that powers Wyze’s person detection uses a form of machine learning called deep learning. Deep learning uses a neural network to imitate human intelligence. To start, we trained the network by providing large amounts of training data. This data was provided by Edge AI beta testers who submitted their videos to Wyze. In this case, the images are of a person or multiple people. This could be any part of the person such as a hand, whole body, or a face. The network then learns the features of “person” that can then be used to predict whether a person is present in a new scene that the network has never seen before. Once a neural network is trained, it is deployed on the Wyze Cam where real-time decision making, known as inference, occurs.
How is it possible to run AI directly on my Wyze Cam?
Xnor.ai founders pioneered two key breakthrough technologies that enable on-device AI: XNOR-Net which reduces the computational complexity of Deep Neural Networks (DNN) and YOLO, the fastest object detection method. These technologies, in concert, form the basis of running DNNs on resource-constrained edge devices.
Will Person Detection always detect people?
While the AI algorithm was trained to handle a variety of environments, lighting conditions, camera angles, and camera mounting positions, there are still edge cases where it can miss a person present in a video clip. Why am I not receiving person tagged motion events?
- Make sure motion detection is turned on in Camera Settings > Event Recording
- Make sure your "Detection zone" is off in Camera Settings >Detection Settings
- Make sure Person Detection is turned on for that camera
- Check if there's any automation schedule or Shortcut that turns off motion detection for cameras you have "Person detection" enabled.
Please Note: The detection zone will limit the number of videos that a person receives so that's why you may not get a person detection notification
Why am I not receiving person notifications?
- Make sure you're getting motion events tagged with "person" in the Events tab
- Make sure Person notifications is toggled on in Camera Settings > Notifications
How do I turn off Xnor.ai watermark?
You can turn off Xnor.ai logo in Camera Settings > Advanced Settings > Show Wyze Logo
What do the green bounding boxes show?
Same as before, the bounding boxes still represent motion tracked in the video and are not related to the person detection algorithm.
